You can get help from the HelpDesk.  Call 348-4357 for assistance.

What is going on with WebCT?

We are currently running a version of WebCT that is integrated with the Student Information System (SIS).   This version can be found at http://webct.ua.edu.  You log on to this system with your Bama ID and your password.  This is where most students will log in.

For those of you who are teaching/taking a course via distance education or some other non-standard course, you can find your course at http://webct2.ua.edu. You can log in with your Bama ID and last four digits of your social security number.

For faculty who need to develop a course before the semester begins, you can first request a course, then access it at http://oldwebct.ua.edu:8900. You log in with your old account IDs and passwords.  These were given to you by the FRC.  If you don't know this log in, contact Bill Fitts at bill@frc.ua.edu.  There are NO students in this version of WebCT.  It is for faculty development purposes only.

What do faculty members need to do at the beginning of the semester?

At the beginning of the semester, all faculty members who have been developing a course need to:

  1. make a back up of the course that is on http://oldwebct.ua.edu:8900 (control panel ›› manage course ›› back up course›› create backup)
  2. download that backup to your computer (control panel ›› manage course ›› back up course ›› download)
  3. delete the backup from http://oldwebct.ua.edu:8900 (control panel ›› manage course ›› back up course ›› delete)
  4. go to http://webct.ua.edu
  5. log into your new course that is integrated with SIS
  6. upload your backup (control panel ›› manage course ›› back up course ›› upload)
  7. restore your backup (control panel ›› manage course ›› back up course ›› restore) using the "Keep Users" option
